National Student Memorial Register

The National Student Memorial Register is an evolving list of student names that remembers, honours and acknowledges children who died as a result of the residential school system. In recognizing these children, we acknowledge the pain inflicted on families and communities.

Add a Name to the Memorial

There remains extensive work to be done to find all the children who never returned home and to locate their burial sites. We welcome any information on additional students who died or are believed or known to have gone missing from residential school. We will continue to update the National Student Memorial Register with names as our research continues. To add a student’s name or update an existing one, please contact us.

NCTR’s spirit name – bezhig miigwan, meaning “one feather”.

Bezhig miigwan calls upon us to see each Survivor coming to the NCTR as a single eagle feather and to show those Survivors the same respect and attention an eagle feather deserves. It also teaches we are all in this together — we are all one, connected, and it is vital to work together to achieve reconciliation.
