The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Announces the 2025 Imagine a Canada Honourees

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Treaty 1 Territory, Winnipeg, MB, May 23, 2025 – The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) is proud to announce the 2025 Imagine a Canada honourees, a group of exceptional youth who are leading the way in reconciliation.

Imagine a Canada is a national arts and leadership program that invites Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth, from kindergarten to Grade 12 and CÉGEP, to envision how they can contribute to the ongoing work of reconciliation. Through various creative projects, these young people explore the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) Calls to Action and develop initiatives that foster understanding, healing, and positive change within their communities and across Canada.

The Imagine a Canada program empowers young people to become changemakers. As we mark the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report and 94 Calls to Action, these honourees embody the spirit of reconciliation at a crucial time, demonstrating remarkable creativity, leadership, and commitment to building a more just and equitable future. We are inspired by their vision and dedication.

– Stephanie Scott, Executive Director of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation

This year, 15 art and essay projects and 16 reconciliation projects, addressing a wide range of topics—including cultural revitalization, creating safe spaces, remembering the past, connecting with the environment, and envisioning a better future—were chosen for their vision, creativity, and contribution to Canada’s reconciliation journey. The chosen submissions will be displayed in an art booklet, and project recipients will receive grants up to $1500.

The 2025 honourees will be recognized at the Imagine a Canada National Celebration and Gathering on May 23, 2025, at 9 AM CDT at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, where dignitaries, special guests, and the honourees will speak about the projects and their meaning of reconciliation.

The NCTR invites all Canadians to visit its website to learn more about the Imagine a Canada program and the inspiring work of the 2025 honourees.
