Indigenous History and Heritage Gathering in Winnipeg POSTPONED

As the Province of Manitoba has declared the province to be in a state of emergency and has enacted the Emergency Measures Act due to severe wildfires, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and the First Nations Confederacy of Cultural Education Centres (FNCCEC) are postponing the Indigenous History and Heritage Gathering (IHHG) that was scheduled from June 2-4, 2025 in Winnipeg, Treaty One Territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.

While we share this news with regret, the people of Manitoba must come first, and we will do our part to support all efforts to ensure the health and safety of evacuees forced to leave their homes and communities. This includes relinquishing our reserved conference lodgings to accommodate evacuees who need the space. As Indigenous Peoples, from time immemorial, we have and will always care for our relatives and neighbours.

We are grateful for the understanding of sponsors, partners, and the speakers and guests who were scheduled to attend, and we are working to secure alternative dates in the near future.

IHHG is an opportunity to bring together residential school Survivors, intergenerational Survivors, Indigenous storytellers, knowledge keepers, and community members to share knowledge and we look forward to welcoming you soon.

Registered attendees will have the option to receive a full refund or to carry their registration forward to the rescheduled event. Further instructions will be shared by email in the coming days.

If you were scheduled to speak at the IHHG and need further assistance, please contact: info@ihhg.ca

The Hope for Wellness Helpline is available 24/7 to all Indigenous people across Canada: 1-855-242-3310
