Statement from the Survivors Circle

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation is our home. It’s where our voices and oral histories are kept safe and where we are protected.

Our work with the Centre includes sharing our perspectives and experiences to guide the NCTR’s ongoing and crucial work of continued truth-telling and to advance reconciliation in Canada based on our truths.

We work closely with the Elders and staff at the NCTR in the pursuit of truth, and we value all members of the team.

As a collective, we want to signify our continued respect and support of those who publicly denounce sexual violence in all spaces, and we admire the courage it takes to come forward.

As Survivors, many of us faced sexual assault in the residential school system – it has left us with permanent emotional and physical scars and lifelong trauma. We will never tolerate sexual or physical abuse in any circumstance.
