Associated with the Roman Catholic mission at Norway House, the Notre Dame Hostel succeeded the Jack River Annex. Until 1960 the Jack River Annex at Norway House was funded as part of the Cross Lake School. Beginning in 1960 the facility was funded directly and began to be known as the Notre Dame Hostel. In 1968 Canada and the Frontier School Division signed the Norway House Joint Agreement transferring operation of the schools in the area to the Frontier School Division. School staff was given the opportunity to work for Frontier School Division following the agreement.
