Imagine a Canada
NCTR launches 2021 Imagine a Canada program, presented by IG Wealth Management
Program to inspire youth-led Indigenous reconciliation projects
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) with support from IG Wealth Management invite youth across the country to Imagine a Canada through the lens of Reconciliation.
Youth from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and CÉGEP can participate by submitting artwork, videos, songs, or plan projects for community events, gatherings, workshops, permanent installations — the sky’s the limit.
“Young people are brilliant, creative and will be our future leaders,” says NCTR Executive Director, Stephanie Scott. “We are challenging youth to envision what our future together looks like. We are excited about the new stream that gives youth the opportunity to make a difference and put Reconciliation into action — for themselves and their communities. Reconciliation needs all of us and we are moved by the strength and determination that young people have towards a better future.”
Teachers are also invited to challenge students in the classroom to think outside the box together as a team, and Imagine a Canada reconciled. Program participants will learn directly from Elders, Survivors, and Knowledge Keepers.
“IG Wealth Management is proud to partner with the NCTR to educate youth across Canada on Truth and Reconciliation, said Damon Murchison, President and CEO, IG Wealth Management. “Our firm has a long history of supporting Indigenous groups and we believe Imagine a Canada is a creative way to inspire the next generation and drive real, positive change.
12 pieces of art (by K-G5 youth) will be selected and featured in a special art book and 15 projects (by G6-12 & CÉGEP youth) will receive up to $1500 in grant funding to make the projects happen. Select students will receive mentorship, training and have the opportunity to present their work at a national celebration in summer 2022.
The deadline for project idea submissions is December 17th. More information about the Imagine a Canada program can be found at https://nctr.ca/education/educational-programs/imagine-a-canada/
